Carla Carlisle: From Heartbreak to Hope in Foster Motherhood

I just don't know what that will look like, but I continue to pour experiences into him that give him the opportunity to see that the world is bigger than you know, the negative experiences he's had.
Carla Carlisle's story is one of immense courage and determination. Always dreaming of motherhood, Carla faced a series of heartbreaking challenges, including an abusive relationship, IVF failures, and miscarriages. Undeterred, she chose to become a single foster mother. With just a few hours' notice, she welcomed JC into her home. Six months later, JC was returned to his birth family, a situation fraught with domestic violence and drug addiction.
Despite the heartache, Carla spent six years co-parenting with JC's birth family, navigating a minefield of manipulation and abuse. Realizing that JC needed stability, she sought legal advice and ultimately adopted him as her own son. In this episode, Carla opens up about her tumultuous journey to motherhood, the emotional toll of co-parenting with an abusive family, and the profound impact of trauma on children.
She also shares her hopes for JC's future and discusses the importance of a strong support system. As she says, 'I just don't know what that will look like, but I continue to pour experiences into him that give him the opportunity to see that the world is bigger than you know, the negative experiences he's had'. Tune in for a deeply moving conversation that underscores the resilience of the human spirit.
