From Criminal to Christian: Sons of Ishmael on The Dry Dock of a Thousand Wrecks

Thus, this one-time hardened criminal, drug-fiend and drunkard has found peace. Almost nightly, he is to be found testifying to the saving and keeping power of Jesus Christ, and not only have the old habits passed out of his life forever, but the indwelling spirit of the most high has mellowed and subdued his nature so that not a trace of the bitter cynicism consequent of Fifteen Years in forced captivity remains.
In this episode of The Dry Dock of a Thousand Wrecks, we are introduced to the Sons of Ishmael, a group of men who have lost their way due to pernicious habits. Through the Old Jerry McAuley Mission, they find redemption and hope through Christ. This episode tells the story of one such man who went from being a hardened criminal, drug-fiend, and drunkard to an active Christian who testifies to the saving power of Jesus Christ.
The Old Jerry McAuley Mission was established to provide a place for chronic alcoholics and addicts who had spiritual experiences during incarceration to continue it outside of prison and not end up back at their old ways. The Sons of Ishmael is a group of men who sought the shelter of the Old Jerry McAuley Mission and found solace in the teachings of Christ.
The podcast episode tells the story of one such man who found his way to the mission after years of committing crimes and serving time in prison. The man started his life as a telegraph operator and quickly became a thief, caught red-handed on one of his expeditions, and sent to Sing Sing for Five Years. During his incarceration, he was made a shipping clerk and found to be thousands of dollars short in his stock.
Eventually, he was sent back to the penitentiary for robbing a jewelry store and, on again regaining his liberty, committed a burglary that landed him there again. This time, he turned to drink to quench his undying craving for drugs. It was in the Old Jerry Macaulay Mansion that he saw the light and heard the voice of Jesus Christ. From then on, he has dedicated his life to the work of trying to save others.
Through the Old Jerry McAuley Mission, he found his redemption in Christ. The podcast episode tells the inspiring story of how the Sons of Ishmael found hope in desperation and salvation through the teachings of Christ.
