Charles 'Bud' Dasey: Bringing D-Day to Life for Future Generations
Everybody in town knows us, especially where he was a police officer. Even though they don't believe that they're heroes, they still went out and did things that the rest of us didn't do.
Imagine being just 19 years old and landing on the beaches of Normandy during World War II. That's exactly what Charles 'Bud' Dasey experienced. Now, at 89, Bud travels around with his 'D-Day in a Box' exhibit, visiting schools and museums to share his story and teach children about the significance of that historic day.
This episode of 'One Hour AT A Time' features host Mary Woods sitting down with Bud to discuss his journey from a young sailor to a dedicated educator. Bud's exhibit has grown from a single box of memorabilia to several, including a detailed 3-D model of the invasion. He doesn't see himself as a hero but believes it's crucial to remember the sacrifices made by all those who served.
Through his stories and artifacts, Bud aims to inspire a new generation to appreciate the past and understand the impact of war on mental health. Tune in to hear Bud's firsthand account and learn why remembrance is so important.
