From Wrecked Truck to Renewed Faith: Logan’s Real Recovery Story

Episode Overview

  • Childhood instability, bullying and grief can fuel anger and risky behaviour, but honest feedback from caring adults can shift a young person’s direction.
  • The loss of a deeply held dream, such as military service, can trigger depression and heavy drinking if left unprocessed and unsupported.
  • High-functioning drinking and early leniency after a DUI can hide how serious alcohol problems already are.
  • A crisis moment – including a deliberate, near-fatal crash – can become a turning point that leads to surrender and genuine faith in Christ.
  • Structured sobriety requirements and a clear sense of God’s call can remove the desire to drink and redirect life toward serving others.
I just looked up to the ceiling and said, God, you gave me life. Take my life from me and just glorify yourself through me.

What can we learn from those who have battled addiction? Real Recovery shares Logan’s story, moving from childhood chaos and heavy drinking to a life centred on Christ. Raised without his dad and bullied for it, Logan grew up angry, scrappy and often in trouble. Martial arts, fishing and the violin brought some balance, but grief hit hard when his grandfather died.

A key moment came when a former school counsellor told him, “I really expected you to be in here by this time,” during a visit to a jail programme for troubled kids – a blunt comment that made him rethink where his behaviour was heading. As a young man, Logan chased purpose in the US Marines, only to have a misdiagnosed knee injury end his military dream.

That loss, a nearby shooting he couldn’t stop, and a heavy drinking culture pushed him into deeper despair and escalating alcoholism. He describes turning a rented house into a party hub, blowing through bottles of whiskey and cases of beer, and treating people “horrible” while still calling himself a Christian in name only. His second DUI, after deliberately flipping his truck at 75 mph in a moment of hopelessness, became the turning point.

He walked away without a scratch but lost his truck, house and job, and was placed on a 24/7 sobriety programme. In that stripped‑down season he realised, “What I needed was spiritual fulfilment,” and prayed for God to take his life and glorify Himself through it.

Logan describes surrendering to Jesus, pursuing seminary instead of engineering, and even dreaming of Christ telling him, “You are worthy.” Now he’s set on sharing that same hope with others who feel too far gone. If you’ve ever wondered whether your past disqualifies you, could Logan’s story be the nudge to ask what God might do with yours?
