And it was enough to make me feel like the hand of god had stepped into my life and done something for me, because I didn't know about rehab, I didn't know about anything.
Picture this: you're 18, on a family cruise, and you discover that in international waters, you can legally buy alcohol. For Eric, this newfound freedom was the start of a wild ride. What began as a rebellious act to annoy his parents quickly spiraled into a full-blown drinking habit. Carrying bottles around the ship, Eric found himself feeling more at ease when intoxicated. But this comfort came at a cost.
Once back on land, he spent all his energy convincing older friends to buy him booze until he hit the legal drinking age. Eric's story didn't stop at alcohol. The buzz he sought led him down darker paths, experimenting with hard drugs and losing friendships and relationships along the way. The nightlife of New York City became his playground, but it also became his downfall. Realizing the club scene was slowly destroying him, Eric knew he needed a change.
