Nathan Morales: Breaking Barriers from Addiction to Attorney
If you have a goal and you've been sober a while and you want to pursue that, and it requires some sort of licensing- I have seen it work over and over and over again- if you stay sober and you can submit paperwork showing that your life is different, then you have the opportunity to be in that profession.
Nathan Morales' story is a gripping tale of resilience and determination. Growing up in southeast LA, Nathan was surrounded by a community where drugs were more accessible than alcohol. By the age of 13, he was already hooked on Speed, setting off a turbulent journey that saw him prioritizing drugs over everything else, even relationships. At 19, he began a rocky recovery journey, marked by repeated cycles of being kicked out of the house, attempting recovery, and then relapsing.
Despite managing to piece together five years of sobriety by 2007, a family tragedy sent him spiraling back into addiction, this time with heroin. It wasn’t until he faced a stark choice between continuing down this path or making a drastic change that he chose the latter. Today, Nathan is a sober attorney who not only overcame his addiction but also the stigma and imposter syndrome that often come with it.
In this episode of 'The Courage to Change: A Recovery Podcast', Nathan opens up about his journey from addiction to becoming a lawyer. He discusses the challenges he faced in breaking free from his past and the societal stigma attached to addiction, especially in professional settings. His story is a powerful reminder of the importance of community support and self-belief in achieving one's goals.
If you're looking for a story that shows the true power of transformation and the strength it takes to break barriers, Nathan's journey is one you won't want to miss.
