The time commitment, it is something that comes up, but even more so what I hear, and this doesn't surprise me at all, is that people are worried that they're going to have to give more energy into the collective, that they're going to have to take care of the other therapists. Does that make sense? And so my response is that is not your job. That is my job. And that is something that I take very seriously.
Being a therapist often means shouldering the weight of others' pain and suffering, and it's no surprise that this can lead to burnout over time. In this episode of 'All Things Substance', host Betsy Byler teams up with Dr. Jenny Hughes to explore how therapists can protect their well-being while continuing to find joy in their work. They dive into practical strategies for building resilience and avoiding burnout, all while fostering a supportive community among therapists. Dr.
Hughes opens up about her personal journey and the creation of the Brave Trauma Therapist Collective, a sanctuary for those in the field of trauma therapy. This collective aims to provide a network of understanding and support for therapists who often face emotional exhaustion. The conversation highlights the profound benefits of connecting with peers who truly get the challenges of this profession.
The episode also teases an upcoming event, 'Braving the Course', which focuses on vicarious resilience and strategies to keep energy levels high and enthusiasm intact. Whether you're a seasoned therapist or new to the field, this episode offers valuable insights and a sense of camaraderie, reminding you that you're not alone in your journey.
