Breaking Free from Self-Sabotage After Narcissistic Abuse

All addictions, in my personal opinion, are a manifestation of this very dynamics: disrespecting one's own self because of a negative self-image or low self-esteem, low self-worth from having been disrespected and essentially taking on the projection of the abuser and taking on the self-image of how they are seeing themselves through their abusers and ultimately disrespecting themselves the same way they were disrespected in childhood.

Ever wondered why some people seem to turn against themselves after enduring narcissistic abuse? In this episode of the 'Narcissism Recovery Podcast', Yitz Epstein sheds light on the perplexing patterns of self-destruction and self-sabotage that often follow such traumatic experiences. Yitz explains how victims, especially those who experienced parental abuse, can internalize negative emotions like shame and guilt, leading them to feel unworthy and, ultimately, to harm themselves.

He dives into the psychological mechanisms at play, revealing how narcissistic abusers program their victims to self-destruct, creating an inner critic so powerful it can become a person's worst enemy. Through practical advice and compassionate insights, Yitz offers strategies to break these damaging cycles. He emphasizes the importance of recognizing and addressing childhood wounds, identifying harmful belief systems, and working through compulsions and desires that lead to self-harm.

By becoming less reactive and doing the inner work necessary to heal, listeners can start reversing these tendencies and move toward a life of authenticity and success. Whether you're grappling with feelings of unworthiness or trying to understand why you can't seem to get out of your own way, this episode offers a roadmap to recovery and self-empowerment.
