Don't let them walk alone ever today, ever. So don't let them walk alone. And when you educate your children, whether they're two years old, four years old, or even talk to them later on as they're teenagers about the good, bad, and the ugly about what's going on in the world and why they should stay off the Internet in some places, they will thank you.
Ever met someone whose life story reads like a gripping novel? Meet Rev Henry (Hank) McGrath from Caroga Lake, New York. Born into a poor Irish family with four siblings and two alcoholic parents, Hank's early years were a whirlwind of chaos and danger. By age 11, he was navigating the gritty streets of Pittsburgh, hustling to survive among bookies, pimps, and prostitutes. His journey took him through juvenile detention and later, prison, for crimes committed in his youth.
But Hank's story doesn't end there. After decades of hard living and near-death experiences, he began confronting his childhood trauma. In the 90s, he found happiness in marriage, but tragedy struck when his wife died of cancer in 2001. Hank made a promise to her to fight for others facing similar struggles. Now, as a minister and a dedicated volunteer for the National Association of Adult Survivors of Child Abuse (NAASCA), Hank is a beacon of hope and resilience.
In this episode of 'Stop Child Abuse Now', Hank joins as a special co-host to share his incredible journey and discuss the urgent need for public education on childhood abuse and trauma. He emphasizes the importance of open conversations between parents and children about life's harsh realities to protect them from harm. The episode also explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children's well-being and the challenges families face in dealing with abuse and neglect.
Hank's heartfelt and raw conversation serves as a powerful reminder of the responsibility we all share in protecting vulnerable children.
