God is love. I went to church the next day, told a Sunday school teacher, we prayed a prayer where I professed Christ as my Lord and Savior so since that age that's been my it's been my anchor to my surprise as I grew up into my adult years I had to deal with some of my abuse and that was shocking to me because I thought that I could just spend the rest of my life trusting God and everything else would just flow into okay yeah you laugh because it's a common myth exactly well that's the kind of cotton wool the kind of candy flus uh religion I'm so happy I'm so happy let's dance let's.
Reverend Cheryl Kincaid has a story that will leave you both moved and inspired. In this episode of 'Steps to Sobriety', she sits down with host Stephan Neff to share her incredible journey from victim to survivor, detailing how faith played a pivotal role in her healing process. Cheryl's background is as diverse as it is impactful; she's a Presbyterian Minister, a former preschool teacher, a foster parent, and an author of five books.
Her extensive experience in Christian ministry and her academic background in Marriage and Family Therapy lend depth to her insights. Cheryl opens up about her traumatic experiences with rape and incest, and how she initially confused love with abuse. Her candid discussion about these dark chapters of her life serves as a beacon of hope for anyone grappling with similar issues.
She delves into the nuances of denial and forgiveness, emphasizing that true healing comes from finding God in the recovery process, not in the trauma itself. The episode doesn't shy away from the tough questions: How do you reconcile faith with such profound suffering? How do you move past the pain to find genuine empowerment?
Cheryl's answers are both heartfelt and practical, offering listeners three key takeaways: understanding the difference between denial and forgiveness, finding divine presence in healing rather than in abuse, and knowing when to walk away from futile attempts at self-repair. Throughout the conversation, Cheryl's unwavering commitment to healing and faith shines brightly. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of spirituality and the resilience of the human spirit.
