I'm somebody that can't live in the world without being anesthetized by a certain amount of alcohol but by turning my will and life over to God whether he exists or not and taking these actions, I have enough comfort to go out in the world and live out there.
What happens when you decide to change your life and embrace sobriety? Chris C, sober since 1987, shares his remarkable journey in this engaging workshop recorded in Tempe, Arizona, back in April 2005. Chris opens up about his battle with alcoholism, recounting the days of drinking himself into oblivion and facing multiple arrests. He vividly describes how ten drinks would make him feel 'normal', allowing him to navigate social interactions without fear.
But it wasn't until he found himself at rock bottom that he truly embraced the path to recovery through Alcoholics Anonymous. Chris's story is one of transformation and resilience. He dives into the significance of the 12-step program, highlighting how surrendering to a higher power and seeking support from peers played crucial roles in his recovery. His candid reflections on Step 10 underscore the importance of continuous self-improvement and addressing character defects.
Chris also touches on the evolution of his understanding of God, moving from seeing God as a mere feeling to embracing a higher power despite any lingering doubts. The episode is more than just a recounting of past struggles; it's a testament to the power of the AA principles in bringing relief from anxiety, depression, and low self-worth. Chris's journey is a beacon of hope for anyone grappling with alcoholism, showing that with dedication and support, profound change is possible.
Whether you're new to recovery or have been on this path for years, Chris's insights offer valuable lessons and inspiration.
