“You have a voice, you have an instrument, which is your body. You don’t have to learn to play the guitar… learn to play your voice.”
Curious about how others navigate their sobriety journey? This conversation on UK Health Radio’s *Lean into Clean* takes a slightly different route to healing, through music, mantra and the human voice. Host Jarvis Smith chats with singer–songwriter and voice ritual guide Rachel Singh, whose work sits at the crossroads of spirituality, sound and community.
Raised between Indian and Dutch cultures, she explains how childhood rituals like Diwali planted early seeds of connection, even though teenage Rachel rebelled with Metallica, tattoos and a hard "no" to mantras. That all changed when she first chanted a Shiva mantra and felt, as she puts it, “the light expanding into the room.” Rachel talks about her new single, the Sanskrit mantra “Om Bhur Bhuva Swaha,” created with producer Vinay and released with Om Presents.
The track is described as a way to clear heavy thoughts and plug into “pure universal energy.” Jarvis shares how his children insist it tops their car playlist, calling the song “just melts me,” while Rachel says the most common feedback she hears is, “Your music is so healing.” This isn’t a standard gigging musician chat.
Rachel sees herself as a channel rather than a performer, saying, “I ask the creator… what do you want to do through me?” Her live shows are interactive “voice rituals” where audiences are gently coaxed into singing, often breaking through lifelong shame about their voices. “You have a voice, you have an instrument, which is your body,” she reminds people.
They also dive into divine masculine and feminine energy, working with menstrual cycles instead of against them, and how sound can help release judgment and bring more peace and harmony into daily life. If you’re looking for gentle, practical ways to feel lighter, calmer and more connected, could your own voice be the place to start?
