What drives someone to seek a life without alcohol? This instalment of *You're Sober! Now What?* looks at exactly that, as Tamar Medford reflects on closing one chapter with The Road Beyond Recovery and opening another focused on helping sober women shape a life they genuinely love. Tamar walks through the past few years, starting with her shift from a corporate job and a health-focused show to a recovery-centred business and podcast.
She talks about how the pandemic forced her to pivot and how a podcast coach and mastermind mentor pushed her to lean fully into recovery work.
As she puts it, "Getting sober was the first step, and then staying sober was really where all the real hard work came in." You'll hear how writing her first book, *Hope Elevated*, helped her process a 20-year battle with addiction and reach people whose lives look fine on the outside but are filled with anxiety, depression and secret substance use.
Her second book, *Beyond Recovery*, grew out of friends asking, "Now what?" and digs into the tools she used to stay sober and build an entrepreneurial life. Tamar shares how she thrives on change and has learned to live on a "wave of discomfort" rather than slipping into complacency. She explains her healthy fear of relapse, the pull of boredom, and the importance of creating a support network of like-minded people in long-term recovery.
Her collaboration with Lane Kennedy in the Connected Calm Life community adds neuroscience, meditation and behavioural change to the mix. Looking ahead, Tamar introduces the *You're Sober! Now What?* podcast and the upcoming Now What Academy, aimed at helping people answer that nagging question after the drinking stops: what comes next, and how good could life actually get? If you're sober and wondering about your own "now what", could this be the nudge to start building something bigger for yourself?
