Ira's Battle: From Addiction to a New Life
I have a purpose Today and I feel god steps in my life a lot, you know.
Imagine feeling like an outsider your entire life, battling health issues, and facing the grim reality of addiction. This is Ira's story. Growing up in the 70s as half Irish and half Vietnamese, Ira never quite felt like he belonged. His early years were marked by verbal and physical abuse, and by age 13, he had already turned to alcohol and drugs. By 15, he was an IV drug user hooked on cocaine and opiates.
Dropping out of high school with just a ninth-grade education, Ira's life spiraled into a series of convictions across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida. But that’s not where his story ends. In this episode of 'Real Recovery Talk', Ira opens up about his harrowing journey through addiction and how he managed to claw his way back to sobriety.
With a history of severe health issues like cancer and diabetes, and even facing death due to his substance abuse, Ira's tale is one of resilience and hope. He shares how he found the strength to turn his life around with the support of loved ones and a newfound spiritual connection. Now, two years sober, Ira reflects on the impact of addiction on his health and relationships, and how he discovered a purpose that fuels his courage and fearlessness today.
This episode isn't just about the struggle; it's about the triumphs that come with recovery. Whether you're facing similar battles or supporting someone who is, Ira's story offers a beacon of hope and a reminder that change is possible.
