Episode Overview
Acknowledging the non-linear healing process and the importance of accepting uncomfortable truths Encouraging listeners to permit themselves to miss elements of their pre-diagnosis lives Emphasising the significance of being transparent with oneself and intentionally supporting emotional and mental well-being Addressing the complexities and emotions that arise after a breast cancer diagnosis Providing reassurance and creating a safe space for listeners to recognise and accept their feelings
It's okay to miss something that I used to love to do. It's not like I'm spiraling into a depression or something or woe is me, poor me, I can't run anymore. I'm just remembering how much I liked it and that there's an absence in my life. I want to talk about that because I think that many of you are experiencing that.
Breast cancer isn't just a physical battle; it's an emotional rollercoaster. In this episode, Laura Lummer, a two-time breast cancer survivor and certified Life, Health, and Nutrition Coach, dives deep into the emotional journey that follows a breast cancer diagnosis. Laura knows firsthand that healing isn't a straight path. It's filled with ups and downs, good days and bad days, and a mix of emotions that can leave anyone feeling overwhelmed.
Laura encourages listeners to accept the truth of their situation, no matter how uncomfortable it might be. She acknowledges that while having a positive outlook is important, it's equally crucial to allow oneself to feel the full spectrum of emotions. It's okay to miss the life you had before the diagnosis, to feel nostalgic for things you used to love, and to grieve those losses without diminishing the joys of the present.
This episode also tackles the often-dismissive comments from others, like 'at least you’re alive'. Laura reminds her audience that all feelings are valid and that it's perfectly human to have mixed emotions. She creates a safe space where listeners can recognize and accept their feelings, providing reassurance that they are not alone in this journey.
Whether you're a breast cancer survivor or supporting someone who is, this episode offers a compassionate and understanding perspective on navigating the emotional complexities of life after a diagnosis. Laura's insights and personal experiences serve as a gentle reminder that it's okay to feel and that healing is a unique and personal journey.
