Ever wondered how alcoholism impacts the world of sports? In this episode of The Sports Doctor Radio Show, hosted by Dr. Robert Weil on UK Health Radio, you'll hear from two insightful guests who tackle this tough topic head-on. Andrew Culkin, CEO of Culkin Global Enterprises, opens up about his late wife's struggle with alcoholism, providing a deeply personal look at the destructive path of addiction.
His story is a stark reminder of how pervasive and damaging alcohol can be, even in the high-stakes world of sports. Joining him is Natalie Graves, a sports social worker and owner of Natalie Graves Athletic Counselling. Natalie brings her expertise to the table, discussing the mental and physical hurdles that young athletes face today. She introduces her new workbook, 'The Athlete's Prep Book', which focuses on goal-setting, performance enhancement, and mental wellness.
This resource aims to help athletes navigate their careers while maintaining their mental health. The conversation doesn't shy away from the harsh realities—like the pressure athletes face and the heavy influence of alcohol advertising in sports. But it also offers hope and practical advice for those struggling with addiction or supporting someone who is.
Whether you're an athlete, a coach, or someone concerned about the impact of alcohol on sports, this episode provides valuable insights and actionable steps to foster well-being.
