From Rock ‘n’ Roll to Recovery: Nan's Journey of Redemption

I guess what I would share with people- and you know, I'm sorry that we didn't get to talk a little bit about how relationships have changed as a result of recovery, which is what's outlined in the steps. For me, the thing that changed the most is: I never really understood that relationships were about two people.
Imagine living a life filled with sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll, only to find yourself at the brink of losing everything. In this heartfelt episode of Recovery Internet Radio, hosts Rick Atwater and Rob Ryberg sit down with Nan, a woman who never planned to stay sober for more than a year. Her wild lifestyle came to a screeching halt after an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and a massive intervention landed her in treatment.
Nan faced the harsh reality of being labeled a 'female drunk', grappling with shame, stigma, and the feeling of being an outcast within her own family. But Nan's story doesn't end there. She found a way to live happily and sober, embracing a new mantra: 'Came, Came to, then Came to Believe'. Throughout the episode, Rick and Rob explore the unique challenges women face in addiction and recovery.
Nan opens up about how alcoholism impacted her role as a mother, her relationships, and her self-worth. She highlights the significance of women's meetings in her recovery journey, where she found support and understanding from others who shared similar struggles. Nan also discusses the importance of setting boundaries and how the 12 steps helped her redefine her character and grow in her relationships.
Her journey from shame to sobriety is not just inspiring; it's a testament to the power of community and personal growth. Tune in to hear Nan's story and gain valuable insights into the complexities of addiction and the road to recovery.
