Carl's Journey: From Teen Drinker to AA Advocate

Almost instantly I started to feel better about myself. That sort of come about by a series of steps I got interested in.

Imagine starting to drink at just 15 and feeling the pull of alcohol from the very first sip. That's Carl's story. During Alcohol Awareness Week in November 2020, Carl shared his candid journey with BBC Radio Lancashire. He spoke about how a Christmas party drink spiraled into years of addiction, causing chaos in his life. Despite recognizing early on that he had a problem, Carl's struggle continued for years, filled with moments of desperation and isolation.

But his story doesn't end there. Carl found a lifeline in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), where he finally managed to get sober. He now describes life without alcohol as amazing. Not only has he turned his life around, but he's also become a beacon of hope for others, spreading the AA message with enthusiasm both inside and outside the fellowship. Carl's dedication even extends to working in prisons and serving as a Probation Liaison Officer.

This episode is more than just Carl's tale; it's a testament to the transformative power of support and community. Listeners will hear about the signs of addiction, the importance of seeking help, and the role of music and relationships in recovery. Whether you're struggling with addiction or supporting someone who is, Carl's story offers hope and inspiration.
