I started realizing my resilience when I was writing my brother's eulogy and planning my brother's funeral, picking out what he was going to wear, doing the viewing and planning everything so that my parents didn't have to, because who really wants to plan that, right? So I was trying to take on as much as I could, all while being a mom at the same time and a good mom, you know, and that's the hardest role I've ever had to play.

Ashley Turner knows firsthand the pain of losing a loved one to addiction. Her brother's tragic death from fentanyl poisoning in 2021 exposed glaring flaws in the system meant to help him. Despite his repeated pleas for detox and support, he was turned away, handed only a pamphlet and a cab voucher before being discharged. That same evening, he passed away.
