From Heroin to Healing: Colicchie’s Road to Recovery
I just feel like I was going to share my story. Like some people would listen and they're not really going to fully grasp it, but someone that's been there, they're going to be like: wow, man, yeah, like the needle hanging out of my arm and just like you know the detail you go into, it's like, yeah, that's, that's some real stuff.
Meet Chas Smith, better known as Colicchie, who opens up about his raw and real journey from addiction to sobriety. Starting with weed at 15, Colicchie quickly spiraled into heroin addiction by his senior year of high school. His life became a cycle of jails, treatment centers, and psychiatric wards. He describes it as 'a torturous existence where every day I wanted to die'. Despite trying various forms of moderation, he discovered that complete abstinence was his only way out.
In this episode of 'Sober Nation FM', hosted by Jonathan Sylvester, Colicchie reveals how writing and journaling became his lifeline, eventually leading him to rap and record music. 'I don't think I would be where I am today in my recovery if it wasn't for music', he shares. Now over four years sober, Colicchie finds immense joy in being a father, which he considers the most important role in his life.
Through his music and conversation with Jonathan, Colicchie highlights the significance of support systems in recovery. He talks about surrendering to the process and accepting help as key components of his journey. His story is a testament to the transformative power of creative expression and the joy found in sobriety. Tune in to hear how Colicchie turned his life around and find inspiration for your own path to recovery.
