Paul's Path to Sobriety: Embracing Step One

It's not about the relationships that I screwed up. For me, the unmanageability was the constant suicidal thoughts and the not knowing how I was going to cope with money and how I was going to cope with a situation, and just the mental mess, as opposed to my life actually being a mess, because I was so lucky to have good friends and family around me and I was kind of supported. But I think alcoholics seem to have a special connection with that kind of loneliness. This should be the happiest I should be, you know, and I'm not, and I just feel like putting a gun in my mouth and pulling the trigger, because it's just unbearable and it makes no sense to anyone else. Because, because you're right man, it has nothing to do with the external, it's a hundred percent internal.

Imagine realizing that your struggle with alcohol isn't just a bad habit, but a battle that requires a complete change in mindset. In this compelling episode of 'A Sobering Thought', Paul opens up about his journey through alcohol addiction and the transformative power of the 12-step program. He dives into the heart of Step One, where admitting powerlessness becomes the crucial first move towards recovery.

Paul doesn’t just talk about the theory; he shares his personal battles, the role of the Big Book, and how meetings and community support were game-changers for him. The episode sheds light on the deep connection between alcoholism and mental health, offering a holistic view of recovery.
