Winkie's Journey: Growing Up with an Alcoholic Father

The thing that has worked for me the most, and that I know a lot of my friends have, I've talked to them about it too- is if it's not even addiction, but if it's someone that you can't communicate, if you can't communicate with, I think the most important thing is to write them a letter or an email and express your feelings, because in the end you're just trying to convey how you feel and it'll make you feel better.
Ever wondered how growing up with an alcoholic parent shapes your life? In this episode of 'Between the Lines Recovery', Jay Lind chats with his cousin, Winkie, about his unique upbringing. Winkie’s story isn't just about the struggles; it's a testament to resilience and finding gratitude in the darkest times. From playing dress-up as an adult to being the 'glue' that held his family together, Winkie offers a raw and honest look at how addiction affects entire families.
He opens up about the communication barriers he faced and the coping mechanisms he developed along the way. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Winkie’s journey also highlights the power of expressing feelings and the role gratitude plays in healing. This episode is a heartfelt reminder that even in adversity, there's always room for growth and hope. Tune in to hear Winkie's compelling story and gain valuable insights into the impact of addiction on family dynamics.
