High Potency THC: A Deep Dive into Its Mental Health Risks with Dr. Elizabeth Stuyt
“The higher potency has this really marked withdrawal syndrome and then the products have a very short half life. And what's different between then and now is the high potency, not just the numbers, because if it was not the high potency, we would have seen occasional cases.”
What happens when marijuana gets supercharged? In this episode of 'High Truths on Drugs and Addiction', Dr. Roneet Lev sits down with Dr. Elizabeth Stuyt, a seasoned Addiction Psychiatrist, to uncover the dark side of high potency THC. With decades of experience under her belt, Dr. Stuyt brings a wealth of knowledge about the unseen dangers lurking in today's stronger cannabis strains.
She sheds light on how high potency THC is linked to serious mental health issues like psychosis and schizophrenia, particularly in young people. Dr. Stuyt also delves into the challenges of addiction and withdrawal that come with these potent products, which are far more intense than the marijuana of the past. Why isn't the science being followed more closely? And what can be done to protect vulnerable brains from these risks? Dr.
Stuyt argues for better medical care, robust education, and proactive prevention efforts to tackle these pressing issues. This episode is a must-listen for anyone concerned about the evolving landscape of marijuana use and its impact on mental health.
