From Blackouts to Beauty Icon: Mirta Miler on Sobriety, Parties and Real Confidence
Episode Overview
- Addiction does not always fit the stereotypical image; for Mirta, the key sign was being unable to stop once she started drinking.
- Balkan and content-creator cultures normalised daily drinking and using alcohol to bond and network at events and festivals.
- Quitting alcohol led to major improvements in Mirta’s mental health, relationships, work and even her physical appearance.
- She shows that it is possible to enjoy parties and multiple music festivals completely sober and still have a “blast.”
- Her main advice is to aim for being “1% better every day,” drop the need for perfection, and approach loved ones in recovery with gentleness and support.
“Addiction is not always textbook… it comes in a lot of shapes and sizes.”
How do people find strength in their journey to sobriety? This conversation with Croatian beauty creator Mirta Miler gives a very down-to-earth answer. Known online as a hugely popular makeup content creator, Mirta talks about how her life in Zagreb, her family history, and Balkan drinking culture all fed into a pattern of blackout drinking and risky behaviour.
She makes it clear that her alcohol problem didn’t look stereotypical: “Addiction is not always textbook… it comes in a lot of shapes and sizes.” For her, the red flag was simple – once she started, she couldn’t stop.
She shares how her content-creator lifestyle made heavy drinking feel normal and even professional at times, with festivals, events and endless social gatherings where, as she puts it, “everyone is handing you a drink” and getting drunk with industry people is seen as a way to be accepted. Despite that, she kept her career on track, filming flawless looks even after a night of whiskey and three hours’ sleep, while quietly struggling mentally.
Mirta now has over two years of sobriety and says quitting alcohol “absolutely changed my life… for my relationships, for my work, for everything.” She talks about still loving parties and festivals, just without alcohol, and how her audience reacted when she began speaking openly about sobriety.
Some pushed back, especially locally, but many related more deeply once they saw she “faces the same issues that the rest of us face.” Her advice for people in or considering recovery is disarmingly simple: focus on tiny daily progress. “Just be 1% better every day… don’t try to be perfect. Every trying is perfect.” For friends and family, she stresses being gentle, loving and supportive of whatever approach someone chooses.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you can still have fun, look good, and grow a career without alcohol, this honest chat might get you asking new questions about what a beautiful life really looks like.
