“Perseverance in the addiction model is guarding yourself from the concept of the illusion of a third party called addiction, attacking you and building defenses and building an addiction proofed life and modifying your people, places and avoiding triggers. All this, this modification, which is exhausting, right. And depressing and fighting cravings. Fighting yourself. But with the freedom model, it's perseverance in understanding research at its, at its absolute core. It's simple logic. It's the work like a student. It's being a student of freedom. It's being a student of, oh, I am free. I have always been free and I've been misinformed and let me clarify that misinformation, which takes work.”
Ever been told to 'never give up'? It's a common mantra, but does it always hold true, especially in the context of addiction recovery? In this episode of 'The Freedom Model for Addictions', hosts Michelle Dunbar and Mark Sheeran flip the script on the traditional notion of perseverance. They question whether persistence is always the best path or if there are moments when letting go is the wiser choice.
Through candid conversations and personal stories, Michelle and Mark explore how understanding and self-control can pave the way to genuine freedom from addiction. They argue that addiction isn't a disease but a mindset, challenging listeners to rethink their approach to recovery. This episode offers a fresh perspective on reclaiming your life by balancing perseverance with the wisdom to know when to let go.
