How do people find strength in their journey to sobriety? This conversation follows Jeff Hambrick, a high-achieving athlete from a driven, "zero to a hundred" family, as he talks candidly about how alcohol, pain pills and secret chaos took over his life — and how faith reshaped everything. You'll hear how Jeff went from clean-cut college footballer to drinking four or five nights a week, using alcohol to numb grief after losing his grandparents.

A serious car accident then stripped away his main coping mechanism: intense training. With chronic pain and a stalled athletic career, he turned to prescribed pain pills, saying they were "the beginning of the end" as his dependence deepened and affairs and double lives followed. Even winning a major endurance event left him "absolutely empty inside" and crying himself to sleep, despite the success he had chased for years.

His turning point came in a gym office, holding divorce papers and reading that he wasn’t considered fit to be a dad. Calling out to God, Jeff describes hearing, "I will help you, but this is your last chance," and asking only for "a chance to be a dad". From that day, he says he stopped taking pills without withdrawal and later moved to Oklahoma with almost nothing to rebuild his life around fatherhood and faith.

Jeff shares how God tackled the thing he feared most — vulnerability — and turned it into his main tool for helping other men. Now running a men’s ministry and fitness centre, he tells guys that "God can repair and restore any relationship if you let him", using daily reflection, honesty and intentional routines to stay sober and focused on Christ.

If you’re wondering whether faith, honesty and a bit of grit could change your own recovery story, this episode might be the nudge you need to ask what God could do with your life too.
