Group Rep/Q&A Meeting- July 2026

How do individuals from all walks of life battle addiction? This Refuge Recovery group rep Q&A shows one very practical side of that: the nuts-and-bolts work that keeps a Buddhist-based recovery community running smoothly. Hosted by Vanessa, a volunteer on the Refuge Recovery World Services board, this monthly Zoom call brings together group representatives from both online and in-person meetings. The tone is warm, slightly geeky about process, and firmly grounded in service.

You’ll hear admin updates, money talk, language changes in readings, and plenty of gentle humour about how “our democracy slugs along.” Bernie shares an admin update focused on healthy service transitions: when someone steps down, they’re urged to “stick around and train the person that’s stepping in, set them up for success,” after a recent hiccup where a new secretary couldn’t launch an online meeting.

Colette follows with a short and very human treasury report, including the current bank balance and a note that she and Sebastian are working on updated meditations. A big chunk of the meeting centres on wording in the Refuge Recovery script. Group reps formally vote to remove the word “penetrated” from a reading and provisionally agree to take the replacement word “deepened” back to their groups for conscience.
