I was at work and I'm by myself and I'm looking for a container to put the paint in so I don't have to bend down and get coming in and out of the closet like you've had to over the years. But I... I found the episode we're done here. So I... I... I find I'm looking for a cup or something and I... I open this cabinet and in the cabinet is this old, fully nearly full bottle of Evan Williams whiskey. And for me, whiskey was my thing. That was beer - just made you full, made you fat. I didn't like it and I didn't... You know, I'd get full before I got buzzed off of it. So whiskey was always my thing, which is probably how acute pancreatitis happens 11 times. But, you know, I saw and my first initial thought and reaction was, huh. And then I close it because... I'm like, you know, my knee-jerk reaction is whatever, that's wild, you know. And then, I... I find the thing I'm looking for, I put some paint in it, and I go in there and then I'm distracted. I realized, outside of myself, I'm totally distracted. I'm painting the wrong areas.
Ever faced a moment where temptation seemed too strong to resist? In this episode of 'Let's Talk Recovery', Pastor Aaron Shaw, Mike Laborico, and Caleb Spreiter dive into a real-life story that will resonate with anyone on the path to sobriety. Mike, a dedicated member of Cedar Point Church's recovery ministry, recounts a powerful encounter with an old bottle of whiskey while working at a friend's house. Despite being six months sober, the pull to drink was intense.
Instead of giving in, Mike reached out to Aaron for support and made the brave decision to pour the bottle out. This act of strength didn't just end there. Shortly after, Mike received a call from a woman who had relapsed and was seeking help. Through their heartfelt conversation, she found the courage to recommit to her recovery and reconnect with the church.
