Life is different for me today. I did the whole time I was at the rescue mission. I got attacked on occasions and I didn't react in the way that I would at one point. You'll walk into USARA and you will feel love. I don't think there is an employee there that doesn't tell. We tell each other, we love each other all the time and we show it. And it's the most amazing place.
Imagine facing addiction at just 13 years old. That's the reality John Curran faced, and in this episode of 'Project Recovery', he shares his incredible journey with Casey Scott and Dr. Matt Woolley. John's story begins with early exposure to drugs and alcohol, heavily influenced by his father and older brother. By his teenage years, he was already battling meth addiction and found himself entangled in the prison system.
As if that wasn't enough, John also struggled with the responsibilities of being a parent while trying to stay sober amidst the chaos. At his lowest point, he even attempted to end his life through a heroin overdose. But John's story doesn't end there. He takes us through his remarkable recovery journey, shedding light on the transformative work he's doing with USARA (Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness).
This episode isn't just about the dark moments; it's about finding hope, rebuilding a life, and making a difference in the community. Whether you're grappling with addiction yourself or supporting someone who is, John's candid reflections offer valuable insights into the power of resilience and community support.
