Katie's Battle: From Meth Addiction to Rebuilding a Family

One of the main things that I've gotten through recovery is the fact that I know that I'm able, with all my tragedies with my hands.

Katie's story is a rollercoaster of highs and lows that many can relate to. Once an athletic teenager who won a national championship for springboard diving, Katie's life took a sharp turn after a back injury left her with too much free time. She started partying, smoking weed, and drinking beer. Things took a darker turn after a car accident at 21, leading her deeper into substance abuse.

Yet, hope seemed on the horizon when she met her husband, got sober, married, and had two boys. But social drinking soon turned into something much more destructive, leading to violent outbursts and fear within her family. The situation worsened with the onset of a flesh-eating bacteria and her mother's declining health, pushing Katie and her husband towards Crystal Methamphetamine. They lost their house and ended up living in their car for eighteen months.

Katie hit rock bottom when she was arrested for theft and sent to jail. But this wasn't the end of her story. Now fourteen months sober, Katie, alongside her husband who is fifteen months sober, is working hard to rebuild their lives. This episode of 'Stories of Addiction' dives into Katie's tumultuous journey, highlighting the importance of admitting powerlessness, finding faith, and the critical role of support systems in recovery.

Tune in to hear how Katie turned her life around and found hope amidst chaos.
