Siamak's Journey: Building Narcotics Anonymous in Iran from the Ground Up

It was like gangs in the different neighborhoods, like guys you know from the same neighborhood. So maybe a lot of them just spend time in the NA meeting because there's nothing good to do, but they just become accustomed to it and follow it up because in Iran they cannot.

Imagine starting a recovery group when there was only one in the entire country. That's exactly what Siamak did in Iran. In this episode of myRecoveryCast, hosts Ron H. and Dave F. sit down with Siamak to discuss his incredible journey of building Narcotics Anonymous (NA) from scratch in a place where addiction wasn't even recognized as a disease.

Siamak shares his personal story of recovery, the early days of NA in Iran, and the challenges they faced along the way. He also talks about his role as a special worker running the NAWS branch office in Tehran and the importance of outreach and fellowship development in expanding the fellowship. Today, NA in Iran boasts over 200,000 members and more than 1,000 groups, thanks to the dedication and perseverance of people like Siamak.

This episode offers a unique glimpse into the growth of NA in Iran and the ongoing relevance of the fellowship in helping those struggling with addiction.
