Job Hunting in Recovery: How Much Should You Share?

On one hand we can say: well, it's none of your business, but at the same time...if I'm going to hire somebody as a drug and alcohol counselor, working with youth, driving vehicles, having keys, multiple keys, actually being in a live-in facility after hours, access to confidential records, you would think- and I think that probably falls into this part- that says questions about an applicant's criminal record are illegal unless the employer can prove that the conviction or history are related to the position.

Looking for a job can be tough for anyone, but it's especially challenging if you're in recovery. In this episode of 'Take 12 Recovery Radio', Monty Dale Meyer, affectionately known as the Monty'man, dives into the tricky waters of job hunting for those with a past that doesn't always shine brightly. The big question? How much of your history should you reveal to potential employers?

Monty and his guests explore this delicate balance, shedding light on the legal boundaries of what employers can and can't ask during the hiring process. They also discuss the real-life impact of having a criminal record when job hunting and the emotional toll it can take. This episode is a goldmine of practical advice and heartfelt stories, emphasizing the importance of grace and the power of second chances.

It's not just about finding a job; it's about reclaiming your life and moving forward with confidence. Whether you're in recovery yourself or supporting someone who is, you'll find valuable insights and encouragement here.
