Ryan Brown: From Perfectionism to Recovery After Addiction's Grip
Addiction is a family disease, or you know, anybody who's close to us gets wrapped up in the addiction process.
Ever wondered how a perfectionist can fall into the trap of addiction? Ryan Brown’s story might surprise you. On this episode of 'Project Recovery', hosted by Casey Scott and Dr. Matt Woolley, Ryan opens up about his journey from a high-achieving student to struggling with substance abuse, and ultimately, reclaiming his life. Ryan’s tale begins in high school, where his perfectionist nature kept him away from drugs and alcohol.
He even spent two years in Hong Kong on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ticking all the boxes for a promising future. But life threw him a curveball when he broke his back while snowboarding. Prescribed oxycontin for the pain, Ryan found himself slipping into excessive use, leading to years of battling addiction. The turning point came when his addiction cost him his wife and kids.
Realizing he had hit rock bottom, Ryan decided it was time for a change. With the support of loved ones and the recovery community in Utah, he began his path to sobriety. Now, he’s not only clean but also giving back, helping others navigate their own recovery journeys. Ryan’s story is a testament to the power of honesty and family support in overcoming addiction.
His experiences underscore that while relapses can happen, perseverance and creating new memories are key to reclaiming one’s life. Tune in to hear Ryan's full story and find inspiration for your own recovery journey.
