I just want people to know you're not alone. There's nothing so awful. Carol, you were sharing a lot of your story before, and, you know, I was just thinking to myself, wow, what a sadistic world we live in, you know, so much pain and grief and loss and the children pay the biggest price, right?
How do you transform a childhood filled with pain into a life of purpose and advocacy? In this episode of 'Stop Child Abuse Now' (SCAN), Joe Potosi shares his remarkable journey from a tormented past to becoming a beacon of hope for others. Abandoned by his father at age three, Joe endured years of physical and emotional abuse from his mother and stepfather, who struggled with substance abuse.
His story is one of resilience, marked by a pivotal decision to break the cycle of violence for his own children. Joe's path to healing involved joining the Navy, where he first confronted the anger and resentment festering inside him. However, it was his role as a father that truly sparked his transformation. He made a conscious choice to create a nurturing environment for his sons, determined to end the legacy of abuse.
Writing became Joe's outlet for processing his traumatic memories, culminating in his book 'When The Dust Settled'. His faith in God played a crucial role in his recovery, providing him with the strength to forgive and move forward. Now a minister and motivational speaker, Joe uses his experiences to inspire and support other survivors. This episode is a powerful testament to the human spirit's capacity for growth and change, offering hope and practical advice for anyone facing similar struggles.
