Wendell Fields has faced more challenges than most can imagine, yet his story is one of resilience and hope. In this episode of 'Stop Child Abuse Now', Wendell opens up about his harrowing journey through various forms of abuse—sexual, physical, and psychological. Born weighing just 2 pounds and 10 ounces, he was labeled developmentally disabled and struggled with feelings of rejection, self-hatred, and distrust. In 2008, these overwhelming emotions led him to a suicide attempt.
However, Wendell's story didn't end there. He overcame the trauma of sexual abuse, bullying, alcohol misuse, and the stigma of depression and anxiety to become a beacon of hope for others. Now a Board-Certified Christian Counselor and Certified Christian Life Coach, Wendell uses his experiences to educate and advocate for mental health awareness. He serves on the Board of Directors for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Georgia and represents Georgia on the NAMI National Peer Leadership Council.
His involvement in the multi-award-winning film 'Suicide The Ripple Effect' and his co-authorship of the bestselling book 'There Is No Health Without' further highlight his commitment to helping others. Wendell's candid discussion in this episode sheds light on the complexities of trauma and the profound impact it can have on one's life. His willingness to share his story fosters understanding and empathy, encouraging others to seek support and embark on their paths to recovery.
Tune in to hear Wendell's inspiring journey and discover how he has transformed his pain into a source of support and empowerment for others.
