New Life or Old Life? Exploring the Power of God in The Recovery Course Session 5
Repentance means going in a different direction.
In Session 5 of The Recovery Course, participants are invited to explore the power of God in finding freedom from addiction and compulsive behavior. The course acknowledges that many of our actions and decisions have not been those of someone we would consider a sane person, but that with the power of God, we have hope of getting out of the mess we've created.
This power is found primarily through a relationship with Jesus, and participants are encouraged to commit their independence to a loving power who is far greater than us and who will show us the right path if we want him to. However, for those who have experienced childhood trauma or abuse, the idea of trusting in God may be daunting.
The course recognizes that our view of God may be shaped by the perfectionist demands of a parent or the fear of abandonment, but it encourages participants to seek the Lord and find him, as promised in Deuteronomy. Repentance, or going in a different direction, is key to starting a new life in recovery.
As participants learn to place their everyday ordinary life before God as an offering, they can find the strength to start all over again and be whoever they want to be. Listen to The Recovery Course Session 5 now on alcoholfree.com and discover the power of God in addiction recovery.
