The Prison Yoga Project has made significant strides in transforming the lives of individuals affected by incarceration. With over 200 programs established across 11 countries, the organization continues its mission to provide trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness practices to those who need it most. This year, the project celebrated numerous milestones including the launch of a new website that reflects its deep-rooted mission, vision, and values.
The website serves as a comprehensive resource for understanding the impact and outreach of the project. Additionally, new merchandise like sweatshirts and beanies has been introduced, not only serving as a means of support but also as conversation starters about the project's vital work. A major highlight of the year was the expansion of programs in states like Arkansas, Arizona, California, and countries such as Australia, Canada, and the UK.
This growth is partly attributed to innovative partnerships including one with Edovo, which aims to extend the reach of trauma-informed yoga practices. The project also boasts a remarkable statistic where 70% of its yoga teacher trainees are previously incarcerated or system-impacted individuals, highlighting its commitment to empowering those who have experienced the justice system firsthand. The webinar featured inspiring updates from team members and guests like Nicole B and Jen.
It served as an opportunity to reflect on the organization's successes while recognizing the challenges faced by those impacted by incarceration, especially during the holiday season. The webinar emphasized the importance of resilience, transformation, and connection in their work, urging attendees to consider starting or joining a program. As the year draws to a close, Prison Yoga Project is launching an end-of-year fundraising campaign, inviting communities to support their cause in various ways.
The session concluded with a heartfelt thanks to all participants and a call to continue sharing and supporting the transformative work of the Prison Yoga Project.
