Inside Ken’s Men’s Group: Real Talk, Real Men, Real Connection
Episode Overview
- Men in the group report deep loneliness and a hunger for conversations beyond sport and small talk.
- All members have individual therapy with Dr Ken, which lays the groundwork for honest, emotionally rich group work.
- The circle meets monthly outdoors with fire, drumming and clear intentions to mark the space as special and safe.
- Father and son Randall and Alex show how sharing vulnerability together can soften old ‘dad issues’ and reshape their relationship.
- Group members stress that vulnerability is a form of strength and that suppressing emotions can harm men mentally, emotionally and physically.
“There is a food that men bring to each other. It's a kind of a spiritual or a psychological, emotional food that we can't get anywhere else.”
How do people find strength in their journey to sobriety? This UK Health Radio edition of Guy’s Guy Radio zooms in on men’s emotional health and connection, through the lens of a long-running men’s group led by Jungian psychologist Dr Kenneth Lakritz.
Host Robert Manni brings together Dr Ken and four members of “Ken’s men’s group” – Alex and Randall Wilson (a father–son duo), Iz, and Xavier – to talk about what really happens when men meet regularly to share more than sport, beer, and small talk. The show is aimed at men who feel isolated or stuck in surface-level chat, as well as anyone curious about healthier masculinity and emotional honesty, including partners and families watching a loved one struggle.
Dr Ken explains how every member first worked with him individually before joining the group, which helps create trust and depth. He talks about the “cellular memory” men carry of gathering in circles and rites of passage, and how shame often shuts boys down from their feelings very early on. The group’s monthly outdoor meetings, complete with fire, drumming and intention-setting, are described as a “testing environment” where men can practise being transparent without judgement.
You’ll hear Alex describe the group as a “pressure cooker for growth” as he steps into fatherhood and business leadership, while Randall shares what it’s like to show vulnerability to his adult son after years of working together. Iz and Xavier speak candidly about patriarchy, cultural expectations, and the cost of stuffing down emotions.
Whether you’re in recovery, thinking about therapy, or just tired of pretending you’re fine, this conversation asks a simple question: what might happen if you let a few trusted men see the real you?
