I had to make the change again and come back just because I lost that community and things got tough. It's kind of like that ongoing thing of trying to find that balance. You really are told that these things don't make you happy, but I was happy. So I stepped away from the solution again, you know, where AA is my solution, where I hear all the things that I need to do. And I'm like, I don't know. And I just, I can't do it.
Joann Kenyon's story is one of resilience, transformation, and unwavering hope. Growing up as an Army brat, Joann believed she had everything she needed, but beneath the surface, things were far from perfect. By the age of 12, she had turned to alcohol, and by 14, meth became her escape. Her first night on meth was spent playing video games, feeling better than she ever had before. But this was just the beginning of a downward spiral.
Joann's life quickly descended into chaos—she became a 70-pound raver, selling drugs, and facing multiple convictions by the age of 18. Her journey was marred by in-and-out stints in treatment centers, followed by relapses involving ketamine and speed. Despite the tumultuous path, Joann's story takes a turn towards hope and recovery. Now, with almost 20 years of sobriety under her belt, she dedicates her life to helping others who face similar inner battles.
In this episode, Joann opens up about her struggles and the narrow roads she traveled, only to find that what she sought wasn't at the end of them. Through candid conversations with the hosts, Joann's story provides valuable insights into the complexities of addiction and the challenging road to recovery. It's a tale of courage, resilience, and the transformative power of change.
