“I was starved for love, starved for relationships, starved for trust in people, being safe in places.”
Experience the emotional and inspiring tales of recovery as Strong Tower Mental Health shares Kasha Jankowski’s journey from trauma and addiction towards healing and purpose in Christ. Growing up in post‑communist Poland, Kasha describes a culture where alcoholism was widespread and physical punishment of children was normalised. By her mid‑teens she was drinking, smoking heavily and numbing deep pain, saying she was "already promiscuous, drinking and numbing myself" and actively suicidal by 18.
Her story takes a sharp turn when, against all odds, she receives a visa and comes to the United States with "a Bible and a hundred dollar bill" and soon finds work as a live‑in housekeeper. Within months, a Polish relative’s influence and a local church community lead her into a relationship with Jesus. At the same time, she literally loses her voice due to a polyp on her vocal cords after smoking up to 70 cigarettes a day.
On her knees, she prays a simple deal: "If you ever give me voice, I will always speak and sing for you," and she now sees her restored voice as a daily reminder of grace. Host Heidi Mortenson gently steers the conversation toward mental health and long‑term healing. Kasha explains how God worked slowly through counselling, coaching, deliverance ministry, worship and community, likening her past to "a very big bowl of yarn and mess" that needed patient undoing.
She talks about moving from being just another face in the crowd of followers to living as a close disciple, rooted in identity and authority in Christ. Today, Kasha runs Ebed Ministries, offering coaching, prayer and a "prayer lab" to help others grow closer to God and step into their own callings.
Her mix of humour, honesty and raw detail makes this a helpful listen for anyone wrestling with the effects of addiction, abuse or spiritual disconnection and wondering whether healing really can be for them too.
