Past Trauma, Hormones and Healing: Stacey Ziegler Shares Her Story
Episode Overview
- Unhealed trauma can show up years later in the body as sleep issues, fatigue, weight changes and hormonal imbalance.
- Survival mode often means pushing through and masking pain, but long term this keeps the nervous system on high alert.
- Forgiveness of others, yourself and the situation can bring a deep sense of freedom, even when the full story is unclear.
- Faith practices such as prayer, confession, the sacraments and talking to spiritual mentors can support emotional and physical healing.
- Letting go of past events and surrendering them to God helps reduce the stress load that keeps the body stuck in the past.
“Forgiveness equals freedom.”
How do people find strength in their journey to sobriety and healing from old wounds? This conversation with holistic life coach Stacey Ziegler takes that question head‑on, especially for women in midlife who feel their bodies are screaming while their minds say, "I'm fine." Speaking directly to "my sister", Stacey shares, for the first time publicly, a traumatic night from ten years ago that left her with injuries, memory gaps and intense shame.
She describes black eyes, hospital visits and the haunting question, "What happened to me?"—all while still trying to show up for life, slap on make‑up and pretend nothing was wrong. Stacey ties this story to the way our bodies store unprocessed trauma. She talks about how chronic stress, an overworked nervous system and hormonal shifts can show up as sleep problems, fatigue, stubborn belly fat and feeling "just not yourself".
Her message is blunt and comforting at the same time: "Our body does not forget. Our bodies remember every trauma unless we heal it." Faith runs through everything she shares. Stacey describes giving the whole situation to God, returning to the sacraments, and choosing to forgive the man involved as well as herself, even when she still didn’t fully know the facts.
"Forgiveness equals freedom," she says, stressing that surrendering past hurts to Christ brought her peace, rather than letting them "suck the life" out of her. This episode is especially suited to Christian women, mums and anyone in recovery who suspects old hurts may be fuelling stress, hormonal chaos or unhealthy coping habits. You'll hear plenty of honesty, a bit of gentle humour about make‑up and dating apps, and a strong reminder that "the Lord is close to the brokenhearted".
It might leave you asking: what is your body still carrying, and are you ready to let God help you lay it down?
