Trauma cannot be familiarized without trauma being healed.

What happens when trauma and addiction collide? In this episode of 'Proud Voices', co-hosts Kaylee Hoaby and Luke Miller sit down with Terry, a Pride Institute alumnus who has battled substance use disorder multiple times. Terry first entered Pride in the 90s, during a time when meth was beginning to take hold of the queer community. His story is one of resilience, as he faced career loss, financial ruin, and homelessness, only to find his way back to sobriety.

Sober since August 8th, 2021, Terry opens up about the devastating impact addiction had on his life and how healing trauma was key to his recovery. He highlights the critical role of advocacy and community support in maintaining sobriety, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community. This episode also touches on the stigma associated with being an IV meth addict and the importance of culturally responsive treatment. Terry’s journey is a testament to the power of inclusive and supportive sober living environments.

Tune in to hear an inspiring story that sheds light on the complex relationship between trauma and addiction, offering hope and understanding to anyone facing similar struggles.
