If every time he fell down, I ran out and put a pillow under him so he wouldn't hit so hard, and then picked him up and dusted him off and put him back on his feet, what incentive would he have to change his behavior? You know, God changes our behavior in a lot of nice ways. When all these nice ways fail, God changes our behavior through pain. We turned them over to God and God fixed him.
