Alejandra W.: From Relapse to Redemption in AA
“I had to lose everything in order to make AA my everything, because I tend to get well and think like, ah, it wasn't that bad.”
Imagine growing up surrounded by the chaos of alcoholism, only to find yourself ensnared by the same struggles. That's the reality Alejandra W. faced, and her story is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. Raised by her grandparents in Venezuela while her mother battled alcoholism, Alejandra was no stranger to the world of AA meetings. Despite this early exposure, she fell into the grip of addiction herself at just 15. Her journey to sobriety was anything but straightforward.
After staying sober for several years, Alejandra relapsed at 22, plunging into a dark period marked by full-blown alcoholism and traumatic experiences. It wasn't until 2009 that she found her way back to AA, utterly depleted but determined to rebuild her life. With the unwavering support of her sponsor and a commitment to the 12 Steps, Alejandra slowly pieced together a life of sobriety.
Now, with over a decade of sobriety under her belt, she dedicates herself to service work within AA, helping others find the same hope and healing she did. Her story is a testament to the power of perseverance, faith, and the transformative community within AA.
