Breaking Barriers in Addiction Recovery: Jonathan Edgeley on Changing Language

I think what we've got to be able to do is provide a total solution. It's like putting their oxygen mask on first, because, you're right, they're very fatigued, which is one of the reasons why people, you know, when the time people find me- they're really grateful because they can have someone quarterback the journey right with them and they can take a back step, back role where before they've been doing all the heavy lifting and they're exhausted from it.

Imagine if the words we use could change the way we approach addiction recovery. In this episode of 'Naturally High', host Jeanne Foot sits down with Jonathan Edgeley, a global behavioral health expert, to discuss just that. Jonathan shares his belief that by changing the terminology associated with mental health and addiction, we can make recovery services more accessible and appealing.

His mission is to reduce the stigma that often surrounds these issues, making it easier for individuals and families to seek help. Drawing from his own journey through addiction, Jonathan emphasizes the importance of compassionate, individualized care. He talks about how educating loved ones and breaking down the misconception that addiction is a choice can transform lives.

The conversation also touches on the unique challenges faced by high-profile individuals and the critical role of non-medical services like respite care in holistic healing. This episode offers valuable insights and practical tools for anyone interested in or affected by addiction recovery. Tune in to hear how a shift in language could be the key to a more inclusive and effective approach to healing.
