Desiree Moore: Finding Strength After Unthinkable Loss
Right early on hearing her talk about the backpack activity that she did at the betty Ford clinic and carrying the rocks and just really desperately wanting to get rid of her mom's rocks, I just that one killed me.
Desiree Moore's life story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Growing up with parents who struggled with addiction, Desiree was determined to carve out a different path for herself. At 18, she met a man who seemed to offer the stability she craved. They married and started a family, but soon, her husband's behavior took a dark turn. His obsession with pornography and subsequent violent tendencies shattered the facade of their 'perfect' life.
The violence escalated, and tragically, in 2008, her husband murdered their daughter. This unimaginable loss left Desiree in a state of despair, battling guilt and sadness while trying to survive with her remaining child placed in foster care. Despite working multiple jobs, she found herself homeless and hopeless. But a friend's suggestion to move to a new town marked the beginning of her slow climb towards recovery.
In this episode of 'The Courage to Change: A Recovery Podcast', Desiree shares how she navigated through her struggles with addiction and self-worth, and the lack of support from her community. Her journey is a testament to the power of forgiveness and the importance of cherishing time with loved ones. Desiree's story is a powerful reminder that even in the face of unimaginable loss, resilience and courage can pave the way to recovery.
