Stop Letting Energy Drainers Steal Your Week

Episode Overview

  • Separate your day into momentum builders that fuel you and energy drainers that leave you depleted.
  • Notice common drainers such as morning social media, misaligned commitments, toxic relationships and perfectionism.
  • Pay close attention to negative self-talk, as it may be the biggest ongoing drain on your energy.
  • Run a three-step daily and weekly energy audit to track what builds you and what costs you more than it gives.
  • Swap just one major energy drainer for one clear momentum builder and commit to that change for the rest of the week.
I am the gatekeeper of my energy. I invest it in what builds me and replace what drains me. Today, I choose momentum.

What drives someone to seek a week that actually feels good instead of draining? Dr Quentin Moore uses this Motivational Monday session to help people spot what quietly steals their energy and replace it with habits that actually move them forward. Speaking from a family trip in Amelia Island, he keeps things relaxed and real, starting with a simple question: what was the first thing you did this morning, and did it charge you up or quietly drain you?

From there, he breaks life into two categories: momentum builders and energy drainers. Momentum builders are the habits, people and choices that "move you toward your goals" and leave you feeling "more capable, more energized, and more aligned with who you're trying to become." That might be a morning walk, a focused 20 minutes on your most important task, prayer or devotion time, a workout, journaling, or just drinking enough water and going to bed on time.

Whatever they are, he says you’ve got to protect them like assets. On the flip side, he calls out energy drainers that often hide in plain sight: 45 minutes of social media first thing in the morning, saying yes to things that don’t fit your priorities, toxic relationships, chronic complaining, perfectionism, and especially negative self-talk. He labels that inner voice telling you you’re "not enough, not ready, not worthy" as the biggest drain of all.

To help people turn awareness into action, he offers a three-step "energy audit" for the week and a simple challenge: swap just one drainer for one momentum builder and watch what happens. He wraps it up with a powerful mantra: "I am the gatekeeper of my energy. I invest it in what builds me and replace what drains me.

Today, I choose momentum." If your days often feel like they run out of fuel by Wednesday, this short, punchy session might be the reset button you’ve been needing.
