For me, drinking wasn't working for me, it just really wasn't doing the thing that it used to do for me. I just knew I had no life if I kept drinking, you know, um. You know some of that stuff that happened in my childhood, right.
Katy's life was a whirlwind of chaos and addiction, but her story is a testament to the power of recovery. Growing up in a home where addiction was the norm, Katy's childhood was anything but stable. Her mother tried to make life special for her and her sister, but it often resulted in more turmoil. Despite her mother's attempts to normalize drinking, Katy initially didn't like how alcohol made her feel.
However, as she grew older, she found herself increasingly turning to alcohol and eventually drugs. Her descent into addiction was swift, leading her to frequent bars as early as 10 am daily. Feeling lost and unable to stop, Katy hit rock bottom and ended up in a psych ward. It was there that she realized something had to change.
She discovered Alcoholics Anonymous and a young adult program at a women's treatment center, where she found the fellowship and steps she needed to start her recovery journey. Katy's story is one of pain, but also of hope and resilience. She learned that recovery isn't just about staying sober for others; it's about committing to oneself and finding a moral compass. Her journey highlights the importance of support systems and the courage it takes to face one's demons.
