Mason's Road to Recovery: From Rejection to Redemption
“You gotta just have like that little bit of hope that it will get better. It was either you do this or you don't do it at all.”
What happens when your family rejects you for being who you are? For Mason, this rejection was just the beginning of a tumultuous journey through addiction. Kicked out at 18 for cutting his hair and identifying as transgender, Mason moved in with his girlfriend and quickly found solace in Xanax. But solace turned to chaos when he woke up from a blackout smoking heroin.
Forced into treatment, Mason's initial motivation was more about keeping his car and possessions than getting clean. Unsurprisingly, he relapsed after rehab, feeling unprepared and unwilling to stay sober. Yet, it was his deeper dive into meth that pushed him to the edge, making him realize he needed to change. Today, Mason journals to stay grounded and has rebuilt relationships with his family and friends.
His story is a raw look at the struggles of addiction and the journey to find oneself amidst the chaos. Tune in to hear Mason's candid conversation with Georgie on 'Addiction Talk'.
