Brian Muniz: From Addiction and Adversity to Wheelchair Rugby Champion

If I'm going to be in a wheelchair, I'm going to figure out how to be the best version of myself in a wheelchair that I can be, and that's abnormal, because our minds- we've got this kind of ancient mind in a modern time, our minds built to kind of stay in a cave, build a fire, stay warm, don't fall off a cliff.

Imagine growing up with a neglectful father, surrounded by domestic violence and alcoholism. This was the reality for Brian Muniz, who later spiraled into drug addiction and crime. His life took a drastic turn when a gunshot wound left him paralyzed from the waist down. But instead of letting these challenges define him, Brian found a new lease on life through sports, particularly wheelchair rugby.

In this episode of 'OvercomeOutloud', Charlie Smith sits down with Brian Muniz to explore his incredible journey from the depths of addiction and crime to becoming a professional wheelchair rugby player and coach. Brian's story is a powerful testament to the human spirit's resilience and the transformative power of perseverance. By embracing sports, he not only rebuilt his life but also discovered a passion for coaching others to overcome their own obstacles.

If you're looking for a story that proves there's always a way forward, no matter how tough life gets, this episode is a must-listen.
